Immersive audio

What this is

Itineru can narrate a place to you. Not a list of facts read aloud, but the story of what you are standing in front of and why it is there.

Audio guides need an Itineru+ plan.

The Audio tab

The Audio tab holds every guide you have. There is a search box at the top, and three shelves.

  • Favorites - the guides you have hearted. Only appears once you have hearted something.
  • Itinerary Audio - guides made from the stops on your itineraries.
  • Immersive Audio - standalone guides, not tied to any itinerary.

Tap a shelf title to see everything in it.

Making a standalone guide

  1. Go to the Audio tab.
  2. Tap the sparkle at the top right.
  3. Set the Location you want narrated. You can use where you are now, or search for somewhere else.
  4. Add any Preferences in your own words, if there is something in particular you want to hear about.
  5. Pick your Interests: Historical, Architecture, Arts and Culture, Food and Dining, Nature, Local Stories, Hidden Gems, Photo Spots.
  6. Start it.

What happens next. The guide is written and narrated in the background. You can carry on using the app. When it is ready it appears in the Immersive Audio shelf.

Audio for an itinerary

Open an itinerary and go to its audio guide. Each stop has its own piece of narration, so you can listen to a stop when you get to it rather than all at once.

Starting an itinerary does not start its audio. Press play when you want it.

The player

  • Play and pause.
  • Skip back 15 seconds and skip forward 15 seconds.
  • Scrub through by dragging the progress bar.
  • Speed - tap to cycle through 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x and 2x.
  • Transcript - read the narration instead of listening to it, or alongside.
  • Download - keep a stop's audio on your phone so it plays without a signal.
  • Heart - add the guide to your Favorites.

The mini player

Once audio is playing, a small bar sits above the tab bar. It shows what is playing, and gives you play, pause and stop. Tap the bar itself to open the full player.

Audio keeps playing while you use the rest of the app, and while your phone is locked.

Voices

Under Profile, then Settings, then Audio and Voice, you can choose:

  • the voice engine - Studio Voice or Premium Voice,
  • the narrator voice itself, filtered by all, female or male. Tap play to hear a preview before you choose.

Your choice applies to guides made from then on.

Listening offline

Download a stop's audio before you go, and it will play with no signal. Downloaded audio lives on your phone. You can clear it under Profile, then Settings, then Data and Storage, and download it again later.
