Doing an itinerary
What this is
An itinerary sitting in your Saved tab is a plan. Starting it turns it into the thing you are actually doing. Itineru then keeps track of where you are up to, so you can put your phone in your pocket and get on with the day.
Starting
Open the itinerary, and tap Start itinerary near the top. On a road trip the button says Start this drive.
Starting an itinerary does not start its audio. If you want narration, press play on the audio guide separately. We are not going to put a voice in your ear because you pressed a button about walking.
What happens next. A small card appears above the tab bar and stays there while you are out. It shows the stop you are heading to, roughly how far it is and how long it will take, and which stop comes after that. Tap the card at any time to jump back into the itinerary.
Following it
Open the itinerary and tick a stop off when you have been. The card updates to point you at the next one.
Ticking stops off is the whole mechanism. There is no automatic check-in, no GPS watching you, and nothing to keep up with. If you skip a stop, skip it. If you sit in a park for two hours, sit in the park.
The card never tells you that you are behind, never counts down, and never congratulates you.
Asking Maven while you are out
While an itinerary is active, Maven can look for places along the route you are on, not just around a point. Tap the Maven button and ask for a coffee, a chemist, or somewhere to have lunch.
See Chatting with Maven.
Finishing
Tap Finish on the card. You get two choices:
- Finish and save - the itinerary is recorded as done.
- Stop without saving - it simply ends, and nothing is recorded.
Either way the card disappears and the itinerary goes back to being a plan you can do again.
If you forget to finish
If a lot of time passes with no activity, the card stops assuming. It asks, once, whether you are still on the itinerary. Say yes and it carries on as before. Say no and it offers you the same two choices as Finish.
It asks once. It does not keep asking.
Editing an itinerary while you are on it
You can add stops, remove stops and reorder them mid-way through. Your progress keeps up. The stops you have already ticked off stay ticked off.
Starting a different itinerary
You can only be on one itinerary at a time. If you start a second one, Itineru will tell you the first is still running and ask what you want to do.
